ZLS5_50.11 EXTREME

A machine ready for the next challenge.

When production is constantly changing, the machine also needs to be ready to change.

This month’s Machine of the Month is the IBARMIA ZLS5_50.11 EXTREME, a solution designed for a company specializing in high-precision manufacturing for industries such as semiconductor, aerospace and food. Different parts, geometries and processes require a solution capable of adapting to each new project.

Built around the moving-column architecture of the Z SERIES, this machine combines X 5000 mm, Y 1100 mm travels (with an additional 250 mm for tool changing) and Z 1100 mm with a ±120° continuous B-axis head and an HSK-A100 electrospindle delivering up to 12 000 rpm, 84 kW and 452 Nm. The configuration is completed by an IBARMIA three-level tool magazine with 150 positions, designed to accommodate a wide variety of operations and tooling requirements.

The main added value of this Z SERIES EXTREME lies in the way its working area has been configured to maximize flexibility across different production requirements.

The fixed table incorporates 12 zero points, enabling different clamping configurations to be prepared and speeding up setup changes. These are complemented by 4 additional zero points on the integrated rotary table, designed and manufactured by IBARMIA, with a Ø1000 mm platter and a load capacity of 3500 kg. This combination of fixed table and rotary axis expands the possibilities for machining very different parts within the same machine.

The machine also features a dividing wall, enabling pendulum operation and allowing one working area to be prepared while machining continues in the other.

This adaptability also extends to tool management. Its three-level magazine provides capacity for 150 tools, but for this project the system has been specially modified to handle 5 tools up to 650 mm long. This required adapting the tool changer arm, the front bellows opening and even the access platform to maintain ergonomic tool loading and unloading.

The configuration is also prepared for integration into an automated environment, featuring automatic door opening and machine-to-robot interconnection. These two features facilitate the integration of automatic loading and unloading systems. To further enhance process control, the machine also incorporates a laser tool measurement system, enabling tools to be measured directly on the machine.

A Z SERIES EXTREME that takes configurability one step further: different parts, different clamping setups and different processes, all within the same platform.
