ZLV5_90.10 EXTREME
A solution that adapts to every length: pendulum production and tubes up to 8500 mm

This month’s Machine of the Month is the IBARMIA ZLV5_90.10 EXTREME, a moving-column solution developed for machining tubular components for the agricultural sector. The project responds to a clear requirement: combining productivity for short parts with the capacity to drill tubes up to 8500 mm long, while maintaining a clamping system adapted to different geometries and lengths.
The machine offers travels of 9000 x 1000 x 950 mm. Its vertical head incorporates an SK50 electrospindle delivering 84 kW and 452 Nm, with speeds of up to 12,000 rpm. It is also equipped with a 50-tool IBARMIA magazine.
The key differentiating feature of this Z SERIES EXTREME, however, lies in the configuration of its working area. The fixed table has been replaced by two 4100 mm trunnions without intermediate support, with a rotation range of ±90°. Each one incorporates eight pneumatic jaws, with a clamping force of 20 kN per jaw, quick-change inserts and ±2 mm of floating travel.
This fixture configuration allows the clamping system to be adapted to the characteristics of each tube. The floating jaws absorb small variations during clamping, while the interchangeable inserts make it easier to adapt to different part references without replacing the entire assembly. The pneumatic system also provides controlled actuation integrated into the machining process.
The dual configuration enables two different operating modes. Parts up to 3900 mm can be machined in pendulum mode: while the machine is working in one area, the next part can be prepared in the other. For longer components, the dividing wall is removed and both trunnions work together, creating a single station prepared for drilling tubes up to 8500 mm long.
The result is a solution that goes beyond extending the longitudinal travel. It integrates the machine, rotary axes, fixtures and pneumatic clamping to adapt the process to different part lengths, reduce non-productive time and maintain control of the component throughout the entire machining process.
