IBARMIA PARTICIPATES IN THE MHAYA MISSION PROJECT

THE PROJECT HAS BEEN SUBSIDIZED BY THE CDTI AND IS LED BY THE COMPANY NICOLÁS CORREA

Under the acronym MHAYA (2022-2025), a consortium has been formed consisting of seven machine tool manufacturers with the goal of carrying out an R&D&i project financed by the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI). The program aims to transform current machine tools into intelligent and autonomous production centers, capable of automatically adapting to changing process conditions and production environments.

The consortium is composed of Nicolás Correa, Nidec Arisa, Danobat, Ibarmia, MTorres, Ona, and Zayer. ATS-Global, a leading provider of software solutions for intelligent digital transformation, also participates. As technological providers, the Tecnalia Foundation, the University of the Basque Country (especially the Advanced Aeronautical Manufacturing Center - CFAA), and the University of Burgos are involved. During the MHAYA project, the goal is to achieve a significant advancement in the intelligence levels of these machines, as well as in their ability to adapt to both the operator and the rest of the production environment. The new generation of machines resulting from this project will have the ability to learn from previous experiences, self-program, and increase their productivity. In the event of unforeseen situations, such as the breaking of a tool, they will be able to act autonomously to avoid greater damage. These actions will not be carried out independently but will be integrated into a collective intelligence within the company, communicating with other machines and with the heads of different stages of the production process.

The project is framed within the guidelines of Industry 5.0, which are currently taking shape in Europe. It has its roots in the concept of Industry 4.0 developed in the first two decades of this century (highly sensorized machines, with a first intelligence and cloud connection to simulate processes and transfer data), but offers a broader approach that includes human protagonism, sustainability, and resilience. Industry 5.0 aims for responsible innovation, not only or primarily directed at increasing profitability or maximizing benefits but also at increasing prosperity for all involved: investors, workers, consumers, and society in general.
