A Project that Revolutionizes Repair in the Railway Sector

The main objective of the REP-RAIL project is to design and validate an intelligent system for the repair of high value-added metal parts in the railway sector. This system combines three key technologies:

  • Additive Manufacturing (Laser Metal Deposition, LMD): to restore complex parts.
  • Conventional Machining: ensuring precise and functional finishes.
  • Machine Vision: providing real-time monitoring and analysis to ensure process quality.

The hybrid and customized approach of this system will be specifically adapted to the needs of railway parts, offering innovative and sustainable solutions.

An International Partnership for Success

REP-RAIL's success is the result of collaboration between leading international partners, each bringing their experience and expertise to the project:

  • IBARMIA INNOVATEK: Leads the project with the objective of generating a new range of products to complement its current range of multi-process centers. In addition, it seeks to develop knowledge in advanced processes that will allow it to offer differential services according to the specific needs of each application.
  • SOUTHEAST UNIVERSITY: Its Department of Mechanical Engineering will contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of additive manufacturing, providing innovative solutions for the railway parts worked on in this project.
  • CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd: Focused on the repair of key components of railway vehicles, such as axles and brake discs, its participation seeks to generate significant annual savings thanks to the optimization of these processes.
  • Nanjing Eurosmart Intelligent Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd: Specializing in vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation, it will be responsible for integrating these technologies into the hybrid system developed for the project.

A Long-Range Project

REP-RAIL is an R&D project managed by CDTI, which started its development in 2023 and will run until mid-2026. During this period, the consortium partners will work to deliver advanced solutions that transform railway repair processes.

IBARMIA and its Commitment to Innovation

With projects such as REP-RAIL, IBARMIA reaffirms its leadership in technological innovation applied to strategic industrial sectors. This initiative not only boosts the repair of railway components, but also strengthens the development of sustainable and high added value solutions in the industry.
